Engaging Arts as a Medium of Change and Transformation in Kenya
This project that will seek to harness the power of the arts in every county of Kenya to engage in peace building, civic participation and the furtherance of democracy during that country’s upcoming 2012 election cycle. The project plan was initiated by the Center for Partnership and Civic Engagement (CEPACET) and a locally-based coalition of eight other non-governmental organizations (ngo’s), who between them have the country covered through their extensive networks of partner organizations and constituents. This coalition will work directly with locally based artists and arts organizations in each county of the country.
Simultaneously, ICSCS is recruiting a stellar team of international organizations. They will work with the Kenyan coalition, providing advice and trainings on arts and conflict resolution, the maximization of available technologies, fundamental organizational capacity building and social science research on impacts and outcomes of the project. The international team will also activate a worldwide network of exhibition platforms, both physical and virtual, where art and media being generated from Kenyan can reach a global audience that can, through social media channels, create an “active witness” response to events in Kenya as they unfold.
