Pilots with Advanced Policy Concepts Developed by International Partners
International Futures Forum (IFF), Scotland
IFF has conducted a thorough study of what lies behind the success of the award-winning and much acclaimed Watershed Arts and Media Center in Bristol, distilling the research into a set of operating principles for a new model of continuous innovation for the arts ensuring present and future viability. This work involves a ‘three horizons’ framework which identifies operational points at which innovations occur and can best be fostered.
ICSCS will work with IFF to identify test-bed sites in the U.S. where we could experiment with the application of these concepts and models. ICSCS would also like to use our NextGenArts structure to introduce another related IFF conceptual paradigm into the ongoing public discussions we have created – a taxonomy of multiple economies that occur within social organization that are neither related to nor measurable by money, but are critical to social cohesion. In this structure, art is identified as the currency in the economy of meaning, thereby endowing it with a critically important socio-cultural role.
Re.think, Mission Models Money (MMM), Great Britain
Through the re.think project, MMM is creating a global platform to bring together artists, designers, producers, curators, entrepreneurs, economists, academics, environmentalists, psychologists, technologists, activists, community organizers and campaigners to share practice, exchange ideas and create new methodologies and metrics to respond to the challenges of the 21st century. Re.think aims to show how art and culture can play a vital role in galvanizing action and effective change in values, mindsets and policies. In particular the project is developing new evaluation methodologies of culture that account for shifts in values through active participation and reflection.
ICSCS and MMM will work in partnership on a specific study to develop metrics for the intrinsic impacts of art and culture and examine how the contribution of the arts to vital social behavior development might support policymakers. In addition, MMM will be a frequent team member on different initiatives where social impacts analysis is appropriate. ICSCS will be an active member of the re.think community of practice.
